Client Oriented Care

The philosophy of bringing spirit to our lives is the foundation of my practice. It is my aim to create a collaborative environment in which you and I work together to treat the unique person that you are.

People come to my practice for many reasons. Some just looking for a great, customized massage, and others looking for a Lifestyle change. Whatever the reason, I provide unparalleled attention to your needs.

By thoroughly exploring your medical history, dietary habits and lifestyle, we create an individual program to address all your needs, Body, Mind and Spirit, with the result being a more balanced you.

The process is simple and begins with an initial interview lasting up to 2 hours. During this time, we review your medical history and lifestyle, then jointly create a plan of wellness tailored to your unique needs. The plan may include Therapeutic Massage, Energy Balancing, MFT/Nutritional Counseling, and/or Yoga and Meditation.

So I invite you to leave your stress behind and begin your new healthy lifestyle today!

Bio Individuality is the cornerstone of Functional Nutrition.  Bio Individuality:” recognizes that there’s no one-size-fits-all diet.  Each person is a unique individual with highly individualized nutritional requirements, based on factors that include personal tastes and inclinations, natural shapes and sizes, blood types, metabolic rates and genetic backgrounds.” Carla Golden

This concept is at the forefront of my treatment.  Lifestyle change can be hard or easy, but it is always like solving a puzzle.  The puzzle that is you.  There are thousands of supplements and herbs on the market.  We are bombarded with advertisements daily.  How do you know what is right for you? How does the salesperson at the health food store know what’s right for you?

This is where my years of training comes in. I have spent years researching and learning as much as I can to help you put the facts together and find your path to Wellness.   You want to work with a practitioner who will look at your whole life and work with you, gently guiding through the maze of advice.

We generally begin with figuring what foods work best with your system and eliminating the ones that don’t.  It is important to me that most of our nutrients come from food.  Supplements and/or herbals are added when necessary.

Client Centered Care.If this approach appeals to you, please call for an appointment. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is often confused with deep pressure massage. Deep pressure massage means a constant, strong pressure throughout the session. Deep tissue massage can indeed have a significant amount of pressure behind certain techniques but deep tissue always has a goal. It is used on ailments like chronic pain, recovery from injuries, limited mobility, postural problems and muscle tension or spasm, among others.
Myofacial Release
To understand this brand of therapy it is important to know what the fascia is. The fascia, is the outer layer of the Myofascia which covers the muscles but is under the skin. Fascia is similar to tendons and ligaments in that they are all connective tissue and are made of collagen.
Trigger Point Therapy
If you have ever massaged a person or been massaged yourself then you have probably came across trigger points. They are commonly known as muscle knots; the often painful spots where muscles seem to be clumped together in a tight little ball.
Swedish or Relaxation Massage
Swedish massage is what most people mean when they talk about the general term massage. It is one of the most relaxing types of massage to receive as it works over the whole body. The general techniques are gliding, kneading, tapping, and vibrating or shaking; used on different muscles in the body depending on the desired result.
Positional Release
Positional release therapy is, in some ways, like trigger point therapy as it focuses on painful muscle areas. The similarities end there however. Positional release therapy is a relatively new technique which is not necessarily seen as a form of massage.
Sports Massage
Sports massage, as the name suggests, is a therapy designed for high activity people. Depending on the sport you will be playing there are different areas to treat both pregame and postgame.
Prenatal Massage
The weight of carrying your most precious cargo can be stressful on your muscles; let Shen Tao Wellness Consulting take care of you while you take care of your child. Expecting women go through a variety of different muscle issues due to the extra weight they carry. Back pain, leg pain, sore feet and muscle cramps are all standard issues for mothers to be and constant strain can lead to stress which is bad for the baby.
Postnatal Massage
Bringing new life into the world is a wonderful thing but it also puts a lot of strain on the body. Postnatal massage sessions are tailored to help with postpartum issues which every mother deals with.
Lymph Drainage Therapy
Lymph is the fluid in your body which transports fat, returns protein to the circulatory system and is an important part of fending of bacterial diseases. The lymphatic system runs through the body much as the circulatory system does and brings lymph into the blood and muscles.
Reflexology is the activation of specific points on the hands and feet to promote the proper functioning of the body. The idea behind reflexology is that the hands and feet are like condensed maps of the rest of the body; the head, torso, organs, legs and arms are all directly connected to specific areas of the hands and feet.

Energetic Modalities

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing.  Using hands on, or just above the body the practitioner uses energy to alleviate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual stress.  It is a way to tune your energy to it’s healthiest state allowing for healing to take place.  Reiki is gentle and safe.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is a gentle, noninvasive form of bodywork that addresses the bones of the head, spinal column and sacrum.  The goal is to release compression in those areas which alleviates stress and pain.

The Bars is an energy technique that relieves stress, fosters relaxation by actually slowing down brain waves.  This allows the release of patterns of beliefs, points of view and judgements that you have been holding on to for lifetimes, allowing you to become more present in your life.  By getting your Bars run you are literally changing the probabilities of future possibilities.

Physical & Psychological Benefits of Massage
Experts estimate that upwards of 90% of disease is stress-related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high amounts of stress. Massage is an effective tool for managing this stress, which translates into:
Physical Benefits of Massage
• Decreased anxiety.
• Enhanced sleep quality.
• Greater energy.
• Improved concentration.
• Increased circulation.
• Reduced fatigue.
Massages can also specifically address a number of health issues.

Dottie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from State University of New York at Brockport in 1977. After college, she moved to California where she studied Reiki and Chinese Medicine. She studied Massage at Nashua Community College and became licensed to practice in New Hampshire in 1998. In 2004 she completed a course of study to become a Doctor of Natural Health.
My philosophy of Wellness comes from the belief that balance and nurturing are lacking in our lives. My passion is to facilitate people in finding and restoring the equanimity that we all seek.
I live with my husband Michael in Wilton, NH, where for the past 30 years we have raised our three children. Yoga and Meditation are of paramount importance in my life and I’ve been a student of Yoga for the past 45 years. Time on the mat is so important in my life because it reminds me of what is truly real. It pushes my physical limits but relaxes my body at the same time. Meditation fills me up so that I’m able to completely focus on my clients and facilitate their healing.
